What:
A tiny cove that I think is a breakwater that is almost frozen solid during our -20C (-4F) temps last weekend. By the way, this is salt water (it's the ocean...duh..) which rarely freezes here. I especially liked the "rings" of ice that formed on the rocks as the tide went out and the water keep freezing as it went.
Where:
Prospect (near Peggy's Cove)
Nova Scotia, Canada
(I added it to the map in case you want to find it)
About:
This taken during a great outing last week. Another storm was brewing up and some great clouds were moving in. Time to grab my gear, pack up the dog sled and take a trip to the shore. Many of these places I drive to over and over and take a few shots just to test out comps and plan to return when the lighting or weather conditions are better. Well this was one of those days when they were better!
The thing I love about Nova Scotia is that no matter where you are you are never further than an hour away from the ocean. In fact this spot is only 30 minutes from downtown Halifax which is the largest city in Canada east of Montreal. AND...we just got our first traffic light here so things are much safer now!
Tech crap:
I shot two sets of the typical 3 frames bracketed (-2ev_0_+2ev) in Aperture priority and dialed in a little extra ExpComp as the snow tends to under exposure and go a bit gray. The first set was for the foreground and the second set was for the sky. I created 2 separate HDR images and then merged them as a vertorama (panorama but in vertical mode - see my notes) in Photoshop.
Using an ultrawide lens (10mm here) creates some barrel distortion as it is but when you twist the camera like I did for this shot it gets really crazy! Many of you know my love of this type of shot and I am getting a fisheye lens very soon!
